Explore the best that Camps Bay has to offer

Since the 19th century, Camps Bay has been the Mother City's beautiful, cosmopolitan beachfront enclave. Visitors used to cycle or take the tram to Camps Bay from surrounding areas to enjoy a picnic, a dip in the tidal pools, and to take in the spectacular views.

Today, visitors still flock to Camps Bay's affluent neighbourhood for the fancy restaurants, leisurely cafés, and cocktail bars with terraces overlooking the promenade. The Hussar Grill, Codfather Seafood & Sushi, Ocean Blue, Mantra Cafe, Tiger's Milk, Sunset Cafe, and Azure Restaurant are just a few of the trendy eateries in the area. Camps Bay's Instagrammable beautiful white sand beach and breathtaking vistas of Lions Head and the Twelve Apostles mountains are not overlooked either.

Apart from all the glitz, glamour, and expensive supercars on the beachfront, Camps Bay is known for attracting the outdoorsy and adventurous too. Here are some of the top things to do in Camps Bay if you want to be a part of the fun.

  • Sunbath, snorkel, or surf at the beach

A series of little beaches nestled amid the boulders can be found at Camps Bay. Some offer well-kept picnic spaces with grass, braai facilities, shaded resting areas with tables and seats, and public restrooms.

Camps Bay Beach is a popular choice. You may rent deck chairs and an umbrella here and relax in the sun, or play frisbee and volleyball. The Atlantic seas near Camps Bay, however, may be chilly. On a windless day, the palm-lined beach is breathtaking. Because currents can be fairly strong, make sure you swim in places where lifeguards are present.

Camps Bay Beach may grow busy in the summer. Instead, drive 10 minutes south along gorgeous Victoria Road to Oudekraal beach if you're seeking some peace and quiet. Massive granite boulders hide it from the breeze, providing for wind-free sunbathing and quiet seas ideal for swimming and snorkelling.

Glen Beach is well-known among surfers for its savage right-handers and hollow barrels. Strong rip tides, frigid water, and the odd territorial local may all be found here.

If you prefer shore diving, Camps Bay Reef has lovely swim-throughs and kelp forests teeming with intriguing temperate marine species, such as the charming pyjama shark and puffadder shy shark. Shore dives to the famed Antipolis wreck may be done from Oudekraal beach.

  • Hike the scenic Pipe Track

The Pipe Track hike is located above the beautiful beaches of Camps Bay and Clifton. Along the Pipe Track path, you'll also see a variety of animals and plants, including the famed Cape Fynbos and Proteas.

The path makes its way around Table Mountain, beginning and ending across the road from the Kloof Nek parking lot. Enjoy breathtaking mountain and ocean vistas along the trip, including photo-worthy views of Lion's Head and Chapman's Peak. You'll also travel through some breathtaking gorges. This track will not take you to the summit of the mountain, but it will lead you to more difficult trails that will.

The Pipe Track route also has a fascinating history, as it follows a pipeline that was built to service and deliver water from the Disa Gorge to Cape Town in the nineteenth century. It's now a popular half-day trek that takes three to four hours to complete and has relatively flat terrain, making it a good choice for beginning hikers.

  • Shop at the Camps Bay African Craft Market

The Camps Bay African Craft Market is located between Camps Bay and Hout Bay, on one of the world's most picturesque roads. The market has to be one of the most beautiful open-air marketplaces, with waves smashing below and a majestic mountainscape as a backdrop.

Masks, wooden bowls, sculptures, African curios, hides, beaded jewellery, leather crafts, and other lovely beaded and authentically handcrafted antiques that make great gifts may all be found here.

  • Get inspired at the Studio-G art gallery
