Three Anchor Bay - a location gem in the city

Sandwiched between Green Point and Sea Point, Three Anchor Bay is an upmarket suburb that historically featured a defensive chain which stretched across Table Bay, secured by three anchors. The name Three Anchor Bay, or Drieankerbaai, was registered as early as in 1661.

Today it has become very popular with property buyers, mainly because of its proximity – just 10 minutes from the city centre and its exclusivity – with only 163 homes, 1300 residential apartments and a population of around 2,225 people.

Three Anchor Bay is close to the Atlantic beaches at Camps Bay and Clifton, the V&A Waterfront and the trendy village of Green Point. There’s also a variety of restaurants, side walk cafes and bars on its doorstep.

Gert Loubser, Knight Frank property consultant in the area, says the average price p/sqm for an apartment (based on sales in 2017) is around R42 000. The average price for an apartment, he says, is R3.8 million and around R5.5 million for a free-standing house.

“The area is attracting an eclectic mix of local young, up-and-coming professionals, foreigners as well as early retirement couples who are ‘semigrating’ from other provinces,” Gert says. He adds that the Atlantic Seaboard area has seen enormous growth over the past four years, with prices literally doubling between 2013 and 2018.
